Asli Yetisener

Hi! My name is Asli and I’m from Istanbul, Turkey. I graduated from undergrad at Istanbul University Conservatory under the supervision of my beloved fella Arda Agosyan in 2007. I came to Iowa for my Master’s with Prof.Orhon the next fall and completing my DMA in double bass performance this year.
In Turkey, I had the chance to play with Cemal Resit Rey Symphony, Istanbul and Bursa Symphony Orchestras and also serve in the bass section of Istanbul Opera Orchestra as a contracted player during my undergrad. In Iowa, I have been subbing with Orchestra Iowa and Des Moines Symphony as well as nearby community orchestras.
In addition to orchestral playing, I also had a chance to take part in the CD recording “Viva Concertante” of the University of Iowa Center for New Music Ensemble in 2008, which was a great experience for me.
The University of Iowa is an ideal school for the students who want to pursue an academic career as well as having a lot of performance opportunites. In addition to many large ensembles, there are many smaller ensembles and great people here to play with! In 2008, we formed the “Hawkeye Bass Trio” with two other people in the studio and performed in Butler University bass day. Also in 2009 ISB Pennsylvania Convention, I had the opportunity to appear in a bass trio performance with my teacher Prof.Orhon and another great Turkish bassist Esra Gul. Nowadays, I enjoy playing a quintet with Aiyana, the graduate piano quartet at the University.
