Evan Pettit is in his third year of pursuing a doctoral degree at the University of oklahoma. at the University of oklahoma, he is beginning his D.M.a. docu- ment, in which he is researching stretches and exercises to prolong playing life of double bassists. Pettit serves as graduate assistant for Dr. anthony stoops and the University of oklahoma double bass studio. He is also a three-year holder of an alumni Fellowship at the University of oklahoma. Before coming to oU in 2009, he received his master’s degree at The University of Iowa under Volkan orhon and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. His professional playing career outside of academia includes being a member of the Lawton, okla. symphony and the newly-founded Norman, okla. Philharmonic. For the last two summers, Mr. Pettit has been the principal double bassist for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, austria. While the playing works of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven around the Burgenland region during the festival, he also actively plays chamber music, including a new work last summer for string quintet and soprano soloist. In the summer of 2009, he played with Laustizer opern sommer Festival in Cottbus, Germany.
