Haviland Gilbert is a fourth year undergraduate studying under Volkan Orhon. Haviland is a native of Duluth, Minnesota where he studied with Vincent Osborn of the Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra. Haviland is on track to receive a degree in Double Bass Performance as well as a teaching certificate. Outside of performing and teaching, Haviland has an interest in music education research. In the summer of 2016, Haviland was awarded an ICRU Fellowships to work on a research project with the Oakdale Community Choir. He was also awarded travel funds during the 2015 academic year to present his research at the Ann Arbor Symposium IV: Teaching and Learning Popular music, hosted by the University of Michigan. Outside of music, Haviland is an Eagle Scout who loves being outside, especially in the winter in his home state of Minnesota. He also loves goofing off with the section and distracting others from getting their work done.
